Millimeter (mm)
A millimeter is one thousandth of a meter. It is the unit on engineering drawings, rainfall gauges and the small marks of a metric ruler.
Centimeter (cm)
A centimeter is one hundredth of a meter, about the width of a fingernail. Height, clothing and screen sizes are given in centimeters in most of the world.
Meter (m)
The meter is the SI base unit of length, defined by the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second.
Kilometer (km)
A kilometer is 1,000 meters. Road distances and running races outside the US and UK are measured in kilometers.
Inch (in)
An inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters, a value fixed by international agreement in 1959. There are 12 inches in a foot.
